Two New Books!

Happy Summer, Po-Folk!

The school year is over! Before I disappear into my Wolf Den to write, I have this important news!

I have two new books available July 1st! Just in time for Summer Reading!

Junius Leak and the Spiraling Vortex of Doom (Candlewick Press)
This is my first middle grade novel and my first novel written all in prose. Twelve-year-old Junius works to overcome his fear of water, in the midst of the 1980 Lake Peigneur-Texaco drilling disaster in Louisiana. This book contains all my favorite things: history, pirates, buried treasure, dogs, cats, mystery, and disaster. So far, Junius, has earned two starred reviews. It’s also a Junior Library Guild pick. • “Considering the vividly depicted events, the strong cast, and the young protagonist’s personal triumphs, there’s wow-worthy content aplenty here.” Booklist, Starred Review
  • Wolf blends swashbuckling mystery with ecological disaster in an epic novel.” Publisher’s Weekly, Starred Review

The Gift of the Broken Teacup: Poems of Mindfulness, Meditation, and Me (Candlewick Press)

I am very proud of this book because the poems put into words the feelings and thoughts I had when I was a kid. I wish I had had this book back then to help me find my way to a sense of self-worth. In a starred review, Kirkus calls the book “a terrific exposition of mindfulness, perfectly distilled for curious kids.”
The illustrations, by Jade Orlando, are playful and colorful with lots of surprises.
